NEWPORT TIDY TOWNS:
Newport has had a Tidy Towns Committee for some decades and the efforts
of the various Committees are reflected in an improved appearance
of buildings, private & public and an enhanced environment
and community spirit in the town.
Each year the town has entered the National Tidy Towns Competition
and has consistently been awarded extra marks. Newport has also won
awards in the Annual Competition organised by the Local Authority.
The Tidy Towns Committee has been responsible for the provision of
a Riverside Park adjacent to the Bridge in the town centre, the restoration
of the Church of Ireland Cemetery, Limerick Road and the site clearance
and preservation of the old Catholic Church, Chapel Lane.
As the town is expanding rapidly the Committee requires more volunteers
urgently. Membership is open to everybody and volunteers from the
town and surrounds will be most welcome.
