(AMENTIES AND ACTIVITES):
Fishing:
The Shannon, Castleconnell, Co. Limerick and the Mulcair (its
tributary) are well renowned for Salmon fishing. All species
of coarse fish are also available on the Shannon and Lough
Derg. The Clodaig, Suir and Nenagh River are used
for Brown Trout.
Golfing:
Newport is an ideal base for golfing breaks. Many courses,
including Championship courses are only a short driving
distance from Newport.

Walking:
There are many walking routes to suit all individual needs.
The Slieve Felim Way is s well signpost waking trail. This
trail stretches from Murroe, Co. Limerick to Silvermines
Village, Co. Tipperary.
The route provides panoramic views of the region and in some
parts it is possible to see parts of Counties Clare, Limerick,
Offaly & Tipperary. There is a picnic area on the trail.

Cycling:
There are cycling routes over varying distances of scenic
countryside. Bikes can be hired to enjoy the Keeper Hill

Guided Tours:
Why not experience the joy of touring a working farm such
as a dairy farm, or a honey farm etc.Honey Farm, Pallasgreen,

25 minute drive from Newport.
Other activities such as Equestrian and Swimming can be arranged.
There are a number of approved riding centres with daily,
hourly, three day or weekly tuition available.
The Clare Glens:
This nature trail is located in Newport. It forms a 3km loop
trail following the Clare River through a wooded valley.
It is home to many forms of wildlife.
Music:
All visitors should experience a night of Traditional Music
or other in one of the local pubs (music mainly during the
weekend).
The Bridewell Centre:
Make a visit to the Bridewell Centre, located in Newport.
It is a restored 1860’s, 2-storey jail. It has 8 cells,
2 day rooms and 2 limestone staircases. It is currently used
as a FAS Office and for Peter Dee Academy of music lessons.

Glenstal Abbey
Glenstal Abbey
is a Benedictine monastery in County Limerick
on the southwest coast of Ireland. A 500 acre estate with
streams, lakes and woodland paths, surrounds a castle built
in the romantic Norman style. 5 minute drive from Newport.
The Abbey, which is dedicated to Saints Joseph and Columba,
is home to a community of monks. Our prayer and liturgical
celebration combine with managing a boarding school for boys,

Threashing Festival
The Threashing Festival
occurs annually at Ahern’s Public
House, Newport, Co. Tipperary. Great fun had by all – lots
of events and activities take place.
